Hey Craftsy Ghouls,
For today’s DIY idea, I have a great little makeover project using glass light shades: three different Halloween ghost lanterns. Some of my favorite DIYs involve taking something that would normally be thrown away and transforming it into something useful and decorative. And this little project fills the bill.
And best of all, this project is so quick and EASY!
When I found myself in possession of three frosted glass light shades, I decided to get creative with them and turn them into little ghost lanterns. To find out how I did this, I’m sharing the instructions below along with a supply list. Enjoy!
Supply list for Halloween Ghost Lantern
- glass light shade
- adhesive-backed black felt
- scissors
- glue gun
- Halloween embellishments
- battery votive candle
To begin this project, I drew eyes and a mouth onto the back of the felt, and cut them out.
I simply peeled the backing off of the felt eyes and mouth. Then placed them onto one of the glass light shades. The adhesive makes the felt easy to reposition.
Once I had the eyes and the mouth where I wanted, it was time to decorate the ghost a little bit. A witch’s had was added to the first one with the use of a hot glue gun. Just pop a small battery operated-candle under it and you’ve got yourself a sweet little ghost lantern.
For second ghost lantern, I added some small white roses from Dollar Tree. I thought this one turned out super CUTE too.
And for the final ghost lantern, I just added some fall decor; some berries, ribbon, etc. I think this might be my favorite one.

How CUTE are these ghost lanterns? And how fast and EASY! Which one is your favorite?
I hope I’ve inspired you to get creative and use this idea in your home decor. If you like this DIY, you may also like this glass light shade makeover idea.
