Hello Friends,
Recently I came into possession of four bubble glass light shades. My aunt was replacing a ceiling fan light, and was getting rid of the old fixture; including four glass shades. When she asked me if I wanted them, I said YES, of course.
I’ve decided to create four different repurpose/upcycle projects with them, and this is the first one. I will show you how to create a hanging solar light fixture today. It is so quick and EASY to create, you’ll want to make a bunch of them.
Follow these simple instructions to find out just how easy it is.
Supply list
- Glass shade from old light fixture
- one solar light stake from Dollar Tree
- 16 gauge wire
- wire cutters and/or needle nose pliers
I started by removing the stake from the Dollar Tree Solar light. (Only the light part was used in this project.)
Then I cut an approximately 12 inch length of the 16 gauge wire, and created a hanger out of it. I used another length of wire, about 8 inches, to wrap around the top of the glass shade and attach the hanger to. (I got the wire at Walmart in the jewelry making supplies.)
I just set the solar light on the top of the glass shade, without glueing it at all. It balanced there perfectly and allowed the light to show through the bubble glass. SO PRETTY! And so EASY to make.
I will probably go back and secure the solar light with a little glue. But for now, I think it looks FABULOUS! And I hope you do too.
I can’t wait to show you the rest of my repurposing ideas for the remaining three glass lamp shades. Watch for them in my upcoming posts.
Until next time…..
Happy Crafting!
Pamela
