Oh, I Could Write a Sonnet About Your Easter Bonnet

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Oh, I Could Write a Sonnet About Your Easter Bonnet

Hello Sweet Friends,

This is really not a sonnet, but a blog post. And it’s not about an Easter bonnet but an Easter hat. So I hope you’ll forgive my use of lyrics from “Easter Parade” for the slightly-deceiving title.
Have you ever used a hat as a decor piece? Then, this blog post is for you. Follow along and I’ll show you how to take a Dollar Tree hat and turn it into a beautiful decor piece for your home this Easter.

Supply list

  • Dollar Tree hat
  • one roll of decorative netting/tulle
  • faux Easter lilies and foliage
  • scissors
  • glue gun
  • thin wire (optional)

Begin by removing the ribbon from the hat and discard.

Cut a length of netting to fit around the hat, bunch it together and glue in place. Be sure that the cut ends are at the bottom of the hat.

Tie a bow with the remaining tulle/netting and glue at the bottom of the hat. (For extra security, also use wire to attach the bow.) The bow should have a total of four loops, two on each side of the center and two streamers. See below.

Remove the Easter lilies from the stems. Then glue three of them into the center of the bow.

Separate the faux foliage into individual stems. Then glue each stem amongst the lilies.

If desired, glue two more of the Easter lilies, one on each side, in between the loops of the tulle bow. (They will only be seen from a side view.)

And the Easter hat is ready to display. How SIMPLY beautiful did this turn out? I just LOVE it! Sometimes the simplest projects are the BEST.

I hope you love this project as much as I do. And that I’ve inspired you to decorate a hat for a piece of home decor.

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
