Hello Sweet Friends,
For today’s DIY, I have another AWESOME patriotic decor craft using the July image from the 2024 Locally Grown calendar found at Dollar Tree. Using calendar pages in crafts is such a budget-friendly way be creative, especially when the whole calendar is only $1.25!
With summer in full swing and July 4th nearly here, I thought this was the PERFECT time to share this DIY. I just love patriotic decor and feel like it can really be used year-round.
If you like Americana or patriotic decor as much as I do, follow along for the simple instructions to create this project.
Supply list
- July calendar image
- round plastic plate/dish
- scissors
- Mod Podge
- paint brush
- Waverly chalk paint color plaster
- Waverly antique wax
- various red, white, and blue ribbons
- a few buttons
- glue gun
- small crafting iron and parchment paper, optional
Let’s get to crafting!
The first step for this DIY was to cut out the calendar image to fit the plate. The circular pattern of the image was a little too large to fit properly, so I cut around the main image. Then I cut some of the smaller flowers and stars individually and set them aside.
The entire dish got a coat of white paint; two coats actually. Then it was allowed to dry. The picture below was after one coat only.
A coat of Mod Podge was added next and also allowed to dry thoroughly.
Using a small crafting iron and parchment paper, I pressed the calendar image onto the bowl. The heat from the iron made the Mod Podge soften so that the image could adhere to the bowl.
That just left the small pieces with the stars and little flowers. I attached them by brushing small amounts of Mod Podge onto the back and pressing onto the bowl. Some of the little pieces had to go up the side of the bowl a little bit.
I just LOVE the way this is LOOKING so far. Almost finished!
At this point, I decided to add a small amount of antique wax onto the bowl to give it a more rustic look.
Let’s embellish this patriotic decor piece
I tied a messy bow using various pieces of red, white, and blue ribbons.
Then the messy bow was hot glued to the top of the bowl and some buttons glued into the center of the bow.
And I think this craft turned out super CUTE! What do you think?
I can hardly believe that this started out with a Dollar Tree calendar page and a plastic bowl/dish. Here’s a few more photos.
Again, this project was really easy, budget-friendly, and quick to create; and it looks GREAT! I hope you find inspiration in this project and are able to create something beautiful for your home using this idea.
Until next time……. Happy Crafting!
Pamela
