Patriotic Star Decor using Dollar Tree Wall Tile

Hello Sweet Friends,

For today’s DIY project, I will be showing how to create patriotic star decor using items purchased at Dollar Tree; a wood star cut-out and a wall tile. Add a little paint and a few embellishments; and you’ve got yourself some pretty darn CUTE patriotic decor.

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE creating with the Dollar Tree wall tiles. It is such an inexpensive way to add a vintage look to almost any project. And this DIY project is no exception.

Read on, for a supply list and step-by-step instructions on how to create this patriotic star decor piece.

Supply list

• Dollar Tree wood star shape
• Dollar Tree wall tile
• ribbon and embellishment
• pen
• scissors
• glue gun
• white paint
• antique wax
• paint brush
• baby wipes
• small piece of wire for a hanger

The first step for this project was to trace the star shape onto the wall tile. I like to use the back side because it is a smooth surface. When finished tracing, simply cut along the line and set aside the excess pieces.

Using a hot glue gun, I glued the wall tile star to the wood star shape. I also removed the twine hanger.

Now it was time to paint. I used Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster. It took a couple coats with dry time in-between.

After the paint had dried, I applied some Waverly antique wax with a baby wipe. Then before the wax had time to dry, I wiped it off, leaving a distressed and weathered look.

At this point, I was mostly finished. The only thing left was to add a few embellishments. I tied a small bow with red, white, and blue ribbon. And I chose a few pieces of greenery that I got from Dollar Tree.

The final step was to glue it all together. I chose to glue it a little off center instead of right in the middle. (I also glued a wire loop onto the back for a hanger.) And LOOK how it all came together!

There are so many ways to display this decor piece in your home. You could attach it to a wreath, hang it on a peg, use it as a shelf sitter, or nestle it in a patriotic vignette.
