Repurpose a Glass Light Shade into a Candleholder

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Repurpose a Glass Light Shade into a Candleholder

Hello Sweet Friends,

For today’s DIY project I will repurpose a glass light shade into a candleholder. This will be my final project out of four repurpose/upcycle projects from the four bubble glass light shades that I acquired from an old ceiling fan light.

This project is another quick and easy project. I used a few Dollar Tree items, and some paint, along with the light shade; and the result is very pretty! So follow along to see just how easy this was to create.

Supply list

  • glass light shade
  • Dollar Tree candle holder
  • small jar lid
  • jewel border stickers
  • E6000 glue
  • Waverly plaster chalk paint
  • iridescent glitter
  • Mod Podge

The candleholder and the small gold jar lid were both from Dollar Tree, as were the jewel stickers.

The first step was to add the jewel stickers around the jar lid. The stickers had adhesive on the back but I added a little glue also. Then I painted the lid with off-white paint. I used two coats with dry time in between. Once the paint had dried, I glued the glass shade, the small lid, and the candleholder together with E6000 glue.

I thought it was finished at this point, but then decided I would like it better if I also painted the candleholder with the off-white paint. So that’s just what I did!

And, of course, I had to add a little sparkle! So I added some iridescent glitter using Mod Podge. While I was at it, I also added some glitter to a starfish.

WOW! Didn’t this turn out SUPER cute? And it was just so EASY to create. I’ve chosen to stage it with a coastal theme, but it could easily go with any decor or season.

The rope tray DIY can be found here. The coastal frame DIY can be found here.

I hope I’ve inspired you to try this idea! I think upcycling or repurposing old light shades is a MUCH better idea than throwing them away. Don’t you?

Until next time….

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
