Hello Craftsy Soul Sisters,
For today’s DIY project I will repurpose a glass light shade into a cloche. This is the third out of four featuring a bubble glass light shade from an old ceiling fan light. If I’m being honest, I think this is my favorite one so far.
A cloche, also known as a bell jar or dome, can be used to display a variety of items; from seasonal decor, plants, figurines, etc. Just about anything looks more interesting under a cloche.
Follow the easy steps below to create a cloche for yourself.
Supply list
- glass light shade
- glass drawer pull knob
- lid to fit the opening of the light shade
- Dollar Tree candlestick and small dish
- white paint
- E6000 glue
- Dollar Tree burlap trim
- glue gun
I started by glueing the candlestick and small dish together with E6000. After it was dry, I painted it along with the lid for the light shade. As you can see, the lid above was already painted when I took the picture. I used the same plaster chalk paint that I have used on so many projects.
Using the E6000 glue again, I attached the lid to the glass and the knob to the lid. I allowed it to dry overnight. The next day, I finished by hot gluing burlap trim to the top of the cloche and around the candlestick base. And BAM, I had myself the cutest little CLOCHE! With a kind of farmhouse vibe!
I can see this piece getting a lot of use year-round. A nest of eggs in the spring, a butterfly in the summer, mini pumpkins in the fall, and small bottle-brush trees at Christmastime. So many options; the sky’s the limit!
I hope I’ve inspired you to create a cloche for your home decor.
Until next time……
Happy Crafting!
