Hello Sweet Friends,
This DIY project is the second of four in a series featuring glass light shades. You may recall that for my first project I transformed a glass light shade into a hanging solar light. (You can find that project here.) For today’s idea I will repurpose a glass light shade into a pretty vase or planter; a container which could be filled with faux flowers or foliage, or just about anything you wish.
I love how this project turned out and I hope you do too. Gather around with your craft supplies and I’ll show you just how easy it is to create one for yourself.
Supply list
- glass light shade
- white paint and paintbrush
- jar lid to be used for the base
- burlap trim from Dollar Tree
- E6000 glue
- scissors
- glue gun
My first step for this project was to paint it with white paint. I’m using a bubble glass light shade so I chose to paint the inside rather than the outside so the bubbles would still show. I used Waverly plaster chalk paint, applying two coats with dry time in between.
I also painted the jar lid with the white paint. I used an olive jar lid which was a good size to fit the opening in the glass shade. (Yay for recycling!) After the paint had dried, I used E6000 glue to attach the base to the glass shade.
For a final flourish, I hot glued some burlap trim to the base.
With the exception of waiting for the paint and glue to dry, this little project was super fast and easy to create. And I am so PLEASED with how it turned out. With the neutral color, it could literally be used for any decor or season.
How CUTE is this little project? I love how you can still see the little air bubbles in the glass. There are so many ways to use this vase; the sky is the limit! How would you display it?
I hope I’ve inspired you to give this idea a try!
Until next time……
Happy Crafting!
Pamela
