Spooky Vintage Cat Yard Stake Sign Revamp

You are here: Home / Autumn / Spooky Vintage Cat Yard Stake Sign Revamp

Hello Friends,

I’m starting to see some really cute fall and Halloween decor at my local Dollar Tree. So, of course, I wanted to share this super-easy, budget-friendly revamp of one of their Halloween yard stake signs. I found this Spooky Vintage Cat sign on a stake, which normally would be used out in your yard or maybe in a potted mum outside. But I came up with a cute idea to craft it into indoor decor, using mostly Dollar Tree items. Follow along to see the transformation.

Items needed for Spooky Cat sign revamp

  • Spooky Cat sign stake
  • metal bucket
  • rocks or pebbles for weight
  • floral foam
  • assorted fall stem bundles
  • orange and black decorative mesh
  • wire or pipe cleaner
  • glue gun
  • wire cutters
  • scissors
All items pictured from Dollar Tree.

To begin this project, I added some weight to the bottom of the metal bucket using rocks; then added the foam after trimming the corners for a good fit. Tip: use a knife with a serrated edge to more easily cut the foam.

I made sure the foam was in the container nice and snug before adding the stake sign, placing it slightly back from the center.

Using wire cutters, I separated the fall leaves into individual stems, and placed them into the foam around the stake.

The next step was to make some poufs out of deco mesh. To do this, I cut two pieces of deco mesh and secured in the middle with a black pipe cleaner. I twisted the ends of the pipe cleaner together to create a “stem”.

I made three orange and three black deco-mesh poufs and, using the pipe-cleaner stems, added them to the metal bucket amongst the fall leaves.

I thought it needed a little more black so the final step was to add some black leaves I found at Dollar General. I made sure to cover all of the foam in the bucket with either leaves or the deco mesh.

How CUTE did this quick project turn out?? I am just loving it! It would be perfect for a mantle or shelf, or used as table decor for a Halloween party. How would you decorate with this piece?

I hope I’ve inspired you to make something similar for yourself.

Wishing you a Happy Halloween!

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
