Spring Crafting with a Peat Pot and a Free Bunny Printable

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Spring Crafting with a Peat Pot and a Free Bunny Printable

Hello Sweet Friends,

Today’s DIY idea is a spring craft project featuring a peat pot. As you probably know, peat pots or seed starter pots are mainly used for starting many types of vegetables and flowers for your garden. They are made of biodegradable ingredients such as peat moss, bamboo pulp, wood fibre, cornstalks, and rice hulls.

I found a six-pack of peat pots at the local Dollar General for $1.50. That’s only 25¢ apiece, so that makes peat pots a very budget-friendly option for crafting. They are available mainly in the spring so getting creative with a peat pot seemed like a no-brainer for spring or Easter crafting.

Follow along to see how I transformed a simple peat pot into a super CUTE piece of spring/Easter decor.

Supply list

  • peat pot
  • bunny printable (or other spring image)
  • white chalk paint and paint brush
  • Mod Podge
  • scissors
  • glue gun
  • small piece of floral foam
  • moss
  • faux floral and foliage stems
  • wire cutters
  • faux eggs
  • wired jute cord and mini leaf ribbon for handle
  • fabric or ribbon for bow

The first step for this project is to paint one of the peat pots with white paint. I used Waverly plaster chalk paint. One coat seemed to do the trick, but I did touch up a little with a partial second coat.

Once the paint was dry, it was time to add the bunny image to the pot. I found the perfect image on the Graphics Fairy website. Here is the link, if you would like to use this image too. I downloaded the image, printed it in a small size, and cut around the image.
Or here is a copy of the image that you can use.

Using a generous amount of Mod Podge, I added the bunny image to the peat pot. Then also added another coat of Mod Podge on top.

For the next step, I hot glued a small piece of floral foam into the peat pot. Then topped it with a small amount of Spanish moss.

For the next step I fashioned a “handle” for the peat pot using some wired jute cord from the Dollar Tree and some mini leaf ribbon (affiliate link here) from Amazon. I just loosely wrapped the jute with the leaf ribbon and then glued the finished “handle” onto the pot creating a sort of peat pot basket.

To finish this project, I added some faux florals and foliages, and a ribbon. I cut the floral and foliage stems into small pieces with wire cutters. Then added eggs picks and a small fabric bow.

How CUTE is this little spring “basket”? So DARLING!!

I hope I’ve inspired you to try this EASY, budget-friendly decor idea for this SPRING season.

Until next time….

Happy Crafting!

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
