Stencil a Dollar Tree Rug for Halloween or Day of the Dead

You are here: Home / Autumn / Stencil a Dollar Tree Rug for Halloween or Day of the Dead

Hello Friends,

If you want a quick, easy, and inexpensive DIY, I have just the project for you. And you only need a minimal amount of supplies. My rug has a Halloween/Day of the Dead theme, but you could easily use the same methods to create a rug for any other holiday or season. So follow along and see just how EASY it is!

Items needed for this project

  • Dollar Tree rug/mat
  • stencil
  • black and white spray paint
  • newspaper and painter’s tape

I found a thin wooden “sugar skull” sign from Dollar Tree which I used as a stencil. I wanted the background of the rug to remain black and the skull to be white, so I used newspaper and taped off an area in the center of the rug and sprayed it with white spray paint. I took this outside to do, of course.

I made sure the area was large enough for the “stencil” to fit in.

Then I sprayed black over the stencil very generously so there would be good coverage.

I then removed the stencil and newspaper and it was finished!!!

How easy was that? I let it dry thoroughly before bringing the rug inside.

I’ve seen similar rugs or mats for sale online for $25-30 and upwards, so this is a bargain!

I hope I’ve inspired you to stencil a rug of your very own. It was SUPER easy!

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
