Hello Sweet Friends,
Top o’ the Morning to You,
And Céad Míle Fáilte (One Hundred Thousand Welcomes),
I’m sharing a DIY project with you today, that is perfect for St. Patricks Day and beyond; a succulent shamrock wreath. I’ve seen other crafters create beautiful succulent wreaths and I thought, “Why not in the shape of a shamrock?” Most of the faux succulents are GREEN anyway, so I thought it was the perfect combination. And best of all, most of the supplies for the wreath came from the Dollar Tree. So without further delay, let’s get started.
Supplies needed for Succulent Shamrock Wreath
- Shamrock wire form wreath
- 20+ faux succulent plants
- faux moss rocks
- brillo pads
- brown wire
- scissors or knife
- wire cutters
- glue gun
- burlap ribbon, optional
To begin this project, the entire shamrock wreath form (from Dollar Tree) will be covered with the Brillo pads. Once they are in place, it will give the faux succulents something to adhere to. It’s a little time-consuming to cover the wreath but it really is necessary. Another reason I chose to use the Brillo pads is that, some of the color will show through and hopefully it will just look like moss. I attached the Brillo pads with some of the brown wire pictured below.
I can’t tell you how wonderful and useful this brown wire is for all sorts of craft and floral projects. I’m adding my Amazon affiliate link here if you are interested in purchasing any. (I receive a small commission if you decide to purchase)
I wrapped the Brillo rectangle pad around the stem, holding it in place by wrapping the brown wire around it. I cut a smaller piece of the pad to add at the very bottom of the stem. It will look a little messy, but no worries, it will be covered by the faux succulents and faux moss rocks.
Continue covering the shamrock wire wreath by wiring the Brillo pads. You can see where there are tiny gaps here and there, but I just did the best I could.
I used four packages of Brillo pads (from Dollar Tree) before I was finished.
When the wreath is covered, begin to add the succulents. Cut the stem fairly short using wire cutters. Using a knife, cut a hole through the Brillo where you want to place the succulent.
Add hot glue to the stem of the succulent and add to wreath where the hole is cut into the Brillo.
After I glued the first one to the wreath, I cut holes and placed most of the succulents where I wanted them. Then I glued them all at the same time.
I had some smaller succulents to fill in the bare places. All of my faux succulents were from either Wal-mart or Dollar Tree. I also had some green filler I added into some bare spots. Anything added to the wreath required a hole to be cut and hot glue to secure it.
And finally, using hot glue, I added some of the faux moss stones from Dollar Tree into any remaining bare spots.
I also added a simple burlap ribbon to hang the wreath. How BEAUTIFUL is this wreath? I just LOVE it! I can’t wait until St. Patrick’s Day to hang this on my front door.
I hope I’ve inspired you to get CREATIVE with succulents. I know this project was a little more difficult that most of my DIYs, but I hope that won’t keep you from creating a wreath for your front door. Your neighbors will be GREEN with envy!
Happy Crafting!

And I’ll leave you with my favorite Irish Blessing…..
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
