Two Christmas DIYs using Three Fabric Gift Bags

You are here: Home / Christmas/Winter / Two Christmas DIYs using Three Fabric Gift Bags

Hello Sweet Friends,
How are you today? I hope you are well; and I’m excited to share these two Christmas DIYs with you.

Last year, I bought a three-piece set of Christmas drawstring gift bags from Walmart, because I love the candy cane design on them. I didn’t use them for gift-giving, but instead, thought they would be good to use a future DIY craft project.

Well, the time is now, and I am happy to share these two easy DIY ideas with you. I hope you like them as much as I do. Follow along for the instructions.

Supply list

  • 3 piece set of fabric gift bags
  • square sign from Dollar Tree or Dollar General
  • white paint
  • Mod Podge
  • scissors
  • hot glue
  • ribbon and other Christmas embellishments
  • pillow stuffing
  • 16 small red pompoms

For my first project, I used the top two bags, which are the Christmas plaid bag and the small candy cane bag. A large candy can bag was set aside for the next project; it is the same size as the plaid gift bag. Also used was a Thanksgiving sign from a dollar store. It is approximately 6 inch square.

The first step was to cut the plaid bag down to fit the sign. I also cut the small candy cane image into a small square. (I also painted the sign white so the image would not show through).

After applying a liberal amount of Mod Podge to the surface of the sign, I pressed the plaid fabric square into place and allowed it to dry.

Instead of using Mod Podge, I hot glued the small square onto the sign; making sure it was in the center. I had frayed the edges of the small square also.

To finish this project, I glued on a bow and a few Christmas embellishments and it was finished! And oh, how CUTE did it turn out!!

Wasn’t that a quick and easy project? Now on to the next one.

Using the larger candy cane bag, I turned it into the cutest pillow. I did this by cutting off the drawstring. Then turning the bag inside out and glueing the top about halfway closed. After turning the bag right side out, I carefully stuffed it with pillow stuffing until it was full. Then glued the opening closed. (Oops! forgot to get pictures of that) Lastly, I glued some mini red pompoms around the perimeter of the pillow.

Oh my gosh, isn’t this pillow super CUTE?? I can’t decide which project is my favorite.

Which project do you like best? the sign or the pillow?

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
