Valentine’s Day Mini Book Stack DIY

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Valentine’s Day Mini Book Stack DIY

Hello Sweet Friends,

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and I wanted to share this really EASY makeover project with you; a Valentine’s Day mini book stack. Even if you don’t really decorate for Valentine’s Day, this is a SUPER cute decor piece that could easily be adapted to use for everyday decor.

This past fall, the local Walmart had a Dollar Shop area near the entry, with cute little inexpensive fall decor pieces priced from $1 to $5. Later, I bought a handful of items on clearance including two mini fall book stacks. I think I ended up paying around $1.50 for each book stack, so it was CHEAP. Anyway, I thought it would be a good idea to get creative with one of the book stacks and make a Valentine decor piece with it.

Follow along for instructions on exactly how I transformed this little fall book stack into super CUTE Valentine decor.

Supply list

  • Mini book stack
  • paper with printed words
  • Mod Podge
  • white and brown paint
  • Valentine embellishments
  • glue gun

The first step for this project was to remove the fall decor from the book stack. Then I gave it a couple coats of off-white paint, letting dry in between coats. I used chalk paint, but any white acrylic paint would work.

Choosing the words I wanted to use on the book stack wasn’t too difficult. There are quite a few sweet little valentine phrases I could have used, but in the end I decided to use “love sweet love.” I printed them onto regular printer paper using the font Courier at 55 pt. Then cut them to fit the book stack.

Using Mod Podge, I applied them onto the book stack. Then topped it with another coat of Mod Podge.

I used some of the off-white paint to help blend the white of the paper to the book stack. And also smudged some brown paint in various places on the book stack to make it look aged.

The final step was to add an embellishment onto the book stack. I just used some ribbon and other items I had in my craft stash and glued them on the top.

Didn’t this little project turn out so very CUTE? I am just so PLEASED with it!

I hope I’ve inspired you to get creative with book stacks. A book stack can be made for any season, holiday, or just for everyday decor. I just LOVE how you can pop a little book stack into any vignette and it just adds a little bit of uniqueness!

Until next time…..

Happy Crafting!

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
