Hello Friends,
For today’s DIY craft project, I will be showing you how to create a mini plate wreath. You have probably seen the beautiful wreaths made from full size plates; many times using blue and white delftware. But they can be made with just about any pattern or color plates.
The trouble with a full size plate wreath is that it can be quite heavy and cumbersome, and difficult to hang on your wall. So I will show you a much smaller and lighter version of the plate wreath, using Dollar Tree supplies.
I first saw this idea over on Amanda-Made’s Facebook page and thought it was a terrific idea. So I wanted to do a Craftsy Soul version of it. Follow along and I show you how to create one for yourself.
Supply list
- 2 mini tea set packages from Dollar Tree
- 6 inch embroidery hoop
- various fall paper napkins
- off-white paint (Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster) and paint brush
- pen/pencil
- scissors
- Mod Podge and small paint brush
- hot glue gun
- ribbon, faux greenery, and other fall embellishment
I only used the four plates out of each tea set and set the other items off to the side.
Using the color off-white, I painted all eight plates on the front and back sides. It took two coats with dry time in between.
For the next step I traced the plates onto a few different paper napkins and cut out the circles. Then I applied the napkin circles to the mini plates with Mod Podge.
Seven out of the eight plates was all that I ended up using for the wreath. I allowed the plates to dry before moving on to the next step.
After I arranged the plates into a circle, I placed the embroidery hoop on it to see if it was the right size. As you can see in the below photo, the 6 inch hoop looked like it would be a perfect fit. (spoiler alert, it was)
Using a hot glue gun, I glued the plates onto the hoop. First on one side and then on the opposite side. If the hoop was a clock, I started at 12 o’clock, then 6 o’clock; 3 o’clock then 9 o’clock.
Then I continued glueing the mini plates to the hoop, leaving one spot open for a bow and few embellishments.
I like for the bow to be slightly off-center, but you could certainly put a bow at the top or even bottom of the wreath. Or even leave off the bow and use all plates. It really is just a matter of preference.
The next step was glueing on a simple bow and a few embellishments.
After adding some faux greenery and a few more embellishments, it was finished.
And look how CUTE it turned out!! I am totally crushing on this little wreath. And once again, I want to thank Amanda Made for the idea.
I can’t wait to make more of these. Maybe a Christmas one is next!
I hope you like this sweet little idea and are inspired to make one for your home. I’ve enjoyed sharing this idea with you.
Until next time…..
Happy Fall and
Happy Crafting!
