DIY Chinoiserie Easter Bunny

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / DIY Chinoiserie Easter Bunny

Hello Sweet Friends,

For today’s craft idea, I will be showing you how to create a chinoiserie Easter bunny using blue and white paper napkins. If you LOVE the traditional blue and white whimsical and floral designs of chinoiserie decor, you will also love this project.

You may have seen other craft ideas here on the blog using paper napkins and already know how easy they are to create with. Even though I have other ideas in mind for the chinoiserie napkins, this is the first one I have completed. Follow along for the supply list and instructions for making this super cute project.

Supply list

  • flat wood bunny shape
  • white paint
  • paper chinoiserie napkins
  • Mod Podge
  • parchment paper
  • crafting iron
  • sandpaper
  • ribbon and embellishment
  • glue gun

The first step for this project was to paint the bunny with white paint. If the bunny was not painted white, then the original color would bleed through the finished project. After two coats of paint with dry time in between, the bunny was ready for the next step.

Time to get out the Mod Podge! (Also if you are interested, here is my affiliate link for the chinoiserie napkins from Amazon.)

Before using the paper napkin, the two layers need to be separated.

For the next step, I arranged the napkin onto the bunny until I thought the arrangement looked nice. I even tore a few smaller pieces for the bunny’s head.

A very liberal coat of Mod Podge was applied, then the pieces of napkin were added.

It’s okay for part of the napkin to overlap the edges of the bunny. After the Mod Podge dried, I topped it with another coat of the stuff and allowed to dry.

To smooth out any wrinkles, I used a piece of parchment paper and a small crafting iron.

Then, using a sanding sponge, I sanded around the edges of the bunny. This removed any excess pieces of the napkin.

Finishing up the Chinoiserie Easter Bunny

The project was almost finished. It was time to embellish the Easter bunny. I chose to stick to the colors and add just a small amount of greenery. Only one of the ribbons shown below were actually used in the finished project.

Almost there!

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
