Hello Sweet Friends,
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’m so HAPPY to be back with new FALL DIY for you. Today I will be showing you a Dollar Tree foam pumpkin makeover. I hope you like it as much as I do.
This is one of those projects that when I started, I wasn’t exactly sure how it would turn out. but I have to say that the finished piece is PERFECT for fall! Follow along for instruction on how to create one to add to your FALL decor.
Supply list
- Dollar Tree foam pumpkin
- off-white chalk paint
- antique wax
- paint brush
- paper towels
- stem (I used jute and wire)
- ribbon, fall flower, fall leaf, button, embellishment
- glue gun
- scissors
- wire cutters

To begin this project, I removed, and disposed of, the stem and tag from the pumpkin. Then I painted the entire pumpkin with Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster. It took about three coats with dry time in between.

After the final coat of the chalk paint was dry, I began applying the antique wax with a brush, then wiping it with a paper towel before it had a chance to dry. I did this on the entire pumpkin, doing small sections at a time until it was covered.

While I was waiting for the antique wax to dry, I created a stem for the pumpkin. It was made from three pieces of jute wired together. (My affiliate link for the wire I use can be found here. I use it in so many different crafts because it is so versatile).
Of course, there are many other options for a pumpkin stem, like a stick from your yard, wine corks, a spindle, cinnamon sticks. Just use your imagination!

As you can see in the above picture, I also added some burlap ribbon to a fall flower. This flower was from the Dollar Tree and I jazzed it up a little with some checked ribbon. (Find instructions for that project here.)

So I cut a slightly larger hole in the pumpkin and then glued the stem securely, letting the glue dry before going on.
Then I glued on the flower and ribbon onto the pumpkin. A few buttons, a fall leaf, and some curly wire, were the final embellishments.

Oh my GOSH, how CUTE is this little pumpkin? I was just so EASY to create and the mostly neutral colors make it a perfect accent piece for any fall decor!

I hope I’ve given you a usable idea for an easy decor piece for you home this fall.
Many blessings on you this fall season
Until next time……
Happy Crafting!
Pamela
