Easy Way to Create a Pumpkin out of Twine

You are here: Home / 10 Minute Crafts / Easy Way to Create a Pumpkin out of Twine

Hello Sweet Friends,

For today’s craft idea, I will be showing you an easy way to create a pumpkin out of twine. This is the perfect craft for pretty much all skill levels and it is very budget-friendly (thank you Dollar Tree).

While on vacation recently, I had to come up with an easy craft idea for a fairly broad age group and skill level. And this project was PERFECT!

So grab your craft supplies, gather around my crafting table, and I’ll show you just how EASY this little craft project is.

Supply list

  • one roll of Dollar Tree twine
  • cork, wood spool, or stick for pumpkin stem
  • embellishments such as leaves, ribbon, etc.
  • scissors
  • glue gun

The first step in creating a twine pumpkin is to wrap the twine around one hand 15 times. Cut a short piece of the twine and tie the loops of twine together.

Continue repeating these steps until you have eight “bundles” of twine. Trim any pieces of the twine that stick out.

Apply a short line of hot glue along one of the twine bundles near the tie.

Then press a second twine bundle together with the first one.

Continue glueing until there are four twine bundles glued together.

Repeat with the remaining four twine bundles. At this point, you will have two half “pumpkins”.

Next you will need to glue and gently press the two half-pumpkins together.

At this point, I thought that the pumpkin was really taking shape. Now it was time to embellish it.

I chose a small wooden spool for the stem, so I just glued it to the center of the pumpkin.

Then I glued on some fall leaves and a small ribbon.

For the final embellishment, I glued a few pieces of bittersweet and a curly piece of wire. I also added a button to the top of the spool.

And I feel like this DIY project turned out so CUTE! Take a LOOK!

I should also add that I can probably get three pumpkins out of one spool of the Dollar Tree twine.

I hope I’ve inspired you to give this little idea a try. It really is a quick and easy to create a cute piece of fall decor for your home.

Until next time,

Happy Crafting!
Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
