Hello Sweet Friends,
It’s been a while since I have posted, but I am BACK! And my DIY project for today is a spindle flag. I thought a patriotic craft was in order since our country’s 250th birthday will soon be here; and you’ll be glad to know this is a super easy project.
This idea can be used for any size spindle and any size flag; you may even be able to create with items you already have on hand. I already had the spindles; but I did have to buy some flags that were size appropriate for the spindles. Walmart, to the rescue!
Follow along for the short supply list and easy instructions for this DIY.
Supply List – for each spindle flag you will need:
- spindle
- American flag
- staple gun
- paint for the spindle, optional
- E6000 glue and toothpick, for extra hold, optional

The first step for this project was to paint the spindle white. As I mentioned above, this is optional. I used Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster; using two coats with dry time in between. The size of the flag is 12 by 18 inches. I didn’t measure the spindle but I would estimate that it is 30 – 36 inches.

The next step was to remove the flag from its flagpole. The I got my E6000 glue out and applied it to the spindle with a toothpick.

After I had glued the entire side of the flag to the spindle, I was worried that the glue may not hold as well as I had initially thought. That is why this step is listed as optional.

To reinforce the flag, I used this handy little staple gun from Amazon. At that point I realized that I probably did not need to use the glue after all. Oh well, I guess that flag will stay put! Here’s my affiliate link for the staple gun if you are interested.

So here are a few pictures of the final result! I thought these spindle flags turned out pretty darn CUTE!

I hope you’ve been inspired to give this spindle flag DIY idea a try!
Have a wonderful Independence Day! Until next time……..
Happy Crafting!
Pamela
