Hello Sweet Friends,
I’ve got a super easy craft idea for you today; coffee stirrer stars. Yes, you read that correctly. This project uses those wooden coffee stirrer sticks that you may already have at home. If you like the plain stars, five coffee stirrers are literally the only item on the supply list. But, of course, I had to be a little EXTRA and glue mine together and then paint them in patriotic colors.
For now, I will be using the stars that I have made for patriotic decor, but I am considering making a bunch of them for a Christmas tree this year. I think they are perfect for that natural Scandinavian look. Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s get back to the task at hand.
Here is a supply list and easy instructions to make patriotic stars out of coffee stirrers.
Supplies needed
- five wooden coffee stirrer sticks
- E6000 glue and a toothpick to apply
- paint and paintbrush, your choice of color
- patience

The coffee stirrer sticks that I used for this project were purchased from Amazon. Here is my affiliate link: coffee stirrers. You can also find them at many different stores, just make sure you get the seven inch stirrers.
To begin this project, you will want to count out five of the stirrer sticks. It’s a little tricky to explain how to put the star together but I will do my best. The final stirrer is the hardest to add but once you have it in place, you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to make.

The first step is to take to stirrers and slightly overlap the right stirrer over the left stirrer, making a V shape, or upside down V.

Then take the third stirrer and place it across the other two going under the stirrer on the left and over the stirrer on the right.

The fourth stirrer will be a little trickier to add. Overlap the end of the stirrer to create the right point of the star and the stirrer will go under the other two stirrer sticks.

The final stirrer stick is the hardest to get in place. At first you feel like you need an extra set of hands, but not to worry, you will get the hang of it soon. The final stick is added by overlapping the point then working it over and under the other sticks and joining the final two points of the star. Holding down part of the star with your free hand helps get the star together. I could have made a blooper reel for as many times as a tried to make a star this way.
Once the star is together, friction holds all the sticks in place. Below is how the star looks when it is finished.

The star could be used as-is but to better secure the points, I added a small dab of E6000 with a toothpick and slid the two stick together to create a point. And, of course, I couldn’t just leave it be, I chose to paint the stars red, white, and blue. Look how CUTE the coffee stirrer stars turned out!

Oh my stars! LOOK at all the possibilities; use in a garland, or as shelf sitters, etc.

I hope you like this coffee stirrer star DIY idea as much as I like sharing it with you.
Until next time….. Happy Crafting!
