Hello Sweet Friends,
So good to be back after a short hiatus. Life just seems to be so busy lately. But I’m ready to show you my latest craft idea. It’s a mini hymn board made out of a Dollar Tree arched photo frame.
Seeing hymn boards is very nostalgic; reminding me of going to church as a child and singing the older hymns. When I saw this frame at Dollar Tree, the shape was similar to a church hymn board. And so I decided to try a create a mini hymn board out of it. And with America’s 250th celebration nearing, I thought a patriotic hymn would be appropriate.
Follow along for the supply list and instructions to create one for yourself. It’s pretty simple and you may be surprised by some of the items I used.
Supply List
- Dollar Tree arched frame 5 x 7
- 5 coffee stirrers
- sheet of paper, I used parchment paper
- off-white paint and antique wax
- mini cross, from Amazon
- scissors
- E 6000 glue and a toothpick
- scotch tape

I began this project by removing the glass and back from the frame. The frame probably could have been used as-is but I wanted to give it an aged look. So I used Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster. When the paint was dry, I added some Waverly antique wax.

The same steps were used for five coffee stirrers; paint with the off-white paint and add a little antique wax. I waited for everything to dry before going on. Here is my affiliate link for coffee stirrers if you are interested.

For the next step I printed a few lines of the patriotic song, God Bless America, often found in hymn books, onto a sheet of nice paper. I used the font DIN Condensed at 64pt in bold letters to imitate the block letters you normally find on hymn boards.

Then I cut the paper down to fit the frame and taped it to the backer board of the frame. I tried to center the words as good as I can.

After putting the glass and the backer board into the frame, I was ready for the next step. At this point, this project was starting to take shape.

It was time to use the coffee stirrers. I started by laying them across the frame where I thought it looked good. They were slightly long, so I cut them one at a time and glued them to the glass.

To glue the stirrer sticks onto the frame, I used E6000 and a toothpick. I just spread a little glue on each end of the stick and place it onto the frame. If any on the glue showed, I wiped it off quickly with a paper towel before it dried.

Once I got all of the stirrers in place, this is what the mini hymn board looked like.

Finishing the Mini Hymn Board
The only thing it needed was a small cross at the top. I found some mini crosses from Amazon so thats what I used. I also glued the cross on with the E6000 glue. Here is my affiliate link for the mini crosses if you are interested.

I just love how this mini hymn board turned out. Isn’t it the perfect patriotic decor piece for Independence Day? Here’s a few inspiration pictures of how I displayed it.

And a few more pics!

I like the way this project turned out so well, I’m going to make some with Christmas hymns to display at Christmas time. I hope you LOVE this mini hymn board idea as much as I do and are inspired to create one or many to decorate your home.
Until next time…… Happy crafting!
Pamela
